Lindy, if President Karzai signed a death warrant, or even a property confiscating warrant, against the Christian, it would be not much different, other than in magnitude, from Adolf signing death and property confiscation warrants against Jews.

I don't see how the USA or anyone else could reasonably provide any support for such a step towards genocide.

Islamic Jihad is after genocide against everyone else, who either comply or die. Such ideas are as old as the hills.

Any appeasement is unwise and will, like Adolf's steps to megalomania, lead to more, and more, and more, until they have victory, or, more likely, utter defeat. That's the nature of megalomania.

People forget that Germans were rabidly in favour of Adolf. There is tendency these days to use the word Nazi rather than German, as though it was just a cabal of people who had hijacked the state, which was not the case.

The judicial murder of a Christian convert by a government that exists only on the basis of American power and good will, however, would be intolerable.

I don't believe this is the way the Afghani people think of their government, and I don't think it's wise to suggest that they should.

Bush argues that we are establishing democracy, which is self rule.

I tried to bring up the vicissitudes of democracy years ago -- that voting in fascism is actually not at all uncommon.

And that, for Muslims, it's practically a given that they will vote in Sharia law.

Here it is. Like it or not.
