If the government hires people to be state pets, and the pay rate is good enough, they shouldn't be surprised if they get people accepting the offer. I was hired to perform various roles and accepted various offers at various times. I tried out for welfare and it was fun for a while, but the pay rate wasn't good enough. I thought I was a pretty good dole-bludger, so I thought they should have given me a merit pay increase. I quit after a short time.
