it would be easy to divide them.
The problem is the Sunnis would not get any.
The Kurds and Shiites are sitting on all of the oil producing land.

As Mish points out, the oil goes with the land.

The Sunni's would need to import oil. You have to raise a lot of dates to pay for that.

It certainly wouldn't bother me. The Sunni's of Iraq have had far too many decades of a free ride by abusing the other citizens of Iraq.

The History: Britain chose to rule Iraq through the Sunni's because of the fact that they were a minority in Iraq. As a consequence, the Sunni's would always need the support and assistance of Britain and thus dependent upon them.

There is no reason for America to help maintain this disgraceful legacy. Iraq will divide into three nations as soon as US troops leave.
