"You are trying to fit a round peg in a square hole."

Can be done if you round off the edges a bit. As bush says its hard work. And as you say, it is difficult almost dsunting to succeed there. Hawk says it can be done and for as long as we are there we need to hope he is right.

I believe the point is 'democracy' will be shaped by their religious beliefs and culture, which does not give all people equal rights. You are trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.

So the alternative is to not even try and relegate ourselves to accepting that Muslims will be forever ruled by Islamo-Fascists?

Do you believe that supporting the current authoritarian and totalitarian regimes in the Muslim world is really the manner in which to fight Islamo-Fascism?

And do you believe that such dictatorships, supported by the west, will be able to claim they have more moral authority than a government that is democratic, upon which we can THEN apply influence to foster moderation?

Really.. I would like to know the answer here Steve..

Sounds to me that you're just willing to accept the status quo...

And it was those very attitudes that lead us to 9/11.

Hawk

Our 'democracy' doesn't give all people equal rights either. The most egregious examples are the above-the-law situations we've seen this year alone.
