I thought you meant that the fundamentalist Mormon-like sect had tried to kill others like the fundamentalist Islam folks have been doing for some time now. Well, that also happened, but its ancient history so to speak. The Mountain Meadow Massacre. Although many Mormons participated, and the church as a whole was complicit, only a single individual was eventually brought to justice several decades later IIRC. The point is simply that religious intolerance can take root anywhere. I don't think it is limited to Islam, or to a given ethnic group. For whatever reasons, must Americans don't take their religion quite so strongly to heart. Those who do, and read their religious books literally, can do rather odd things.
