There is a tendency on the part of Christians (varies by denomination) to pick and choose in the OT.

I would certainly agree that some denominations pick and choose. I always had a problem with Baptists telling me that I couldn't drink, when 2 Timothy stated that we should "take a little wine for thy stomach's sake".. But of course, the NT also says "linger not too long at the wine barrel"..

Makes for some rebellious young people, one of which was a girl I used to date.. ;0)

But in particular, my experience with the Mormon community, and their history of polygamy is an example. They also had the Danites, who were effectively terrorists who's mission was to "protect" the church from apostates.
