I told my mother (who at 87 is a member of the Greatest Generation) that I was disappointed in my own generation. I said I wasn't proud of the protests and gimme mentality that our generation seems to have, and that there would never be another generation like hers. After all, they were young during WW1, survived the Great Depression, fought WWII and Korea, and built a tremendous economy that we are all drawing from now. When they were born, horse power was measured in real horses, and flight was in its infancy. They built the freeways and the cars to drive on them, and went to the moon. Simply amazing. A pivotal era, indeed.

She said no, our generation is great in different ways. I agree with you that our military is fantastic these days and attracts the best of us. I guess in some ways our generation is simply doing the dream that hers had for us. Freedom, and the ability to do anything we want.

I hope we deserve it.
