Nikon plans on being market leader in 193nmArF immersion lithography within 3 years!

Nikon provided investors yesterday with a 3 year business plan that was intended to significantly reduce the debt burden the company is carrying as well as improve margins on its products and increase investment in new research.
The company stated within prepared documents concerning the short-term business plan that it planned to become the leading lithography tool supplier once again which would begin with becoming the leader in 193nm ArF immersion tools.

However, in documents prepared for the individual divisions, market leadership across ArF tools (wet or dry) was claimed to be the goal of the division!

With respect to its semiconductor lithography division, it expects unit sales to reach 160 in financial year 2006. The sales split is 44 percent i-line, 29 percent KrF and 27 percent ArF wavelength tools.

By 2009 financial year, Nikon is projecting that it will be shipping 165 tools with a product split being i-line 30 percent, KrF 30 percent, ArF (dry) 34 percent and ArF (wet) set at 15 percent of tool shipments.

The company expects ASP's to continue to rise and boost operating profits as i-line steppers will gradually decline in sales and be replaced with more ArF sales that hold higher selling prices.

Greater emphasis is also being placed on more platform uniformity and standardization to reduce platform costs, cycle times and be more cost competitive with its main rival ASML.
