That's interesting. I did not like The Children of Men, and the Maul and the Pear Tree wasn't a grabber- but I love her mysteries. Some other mystery writers leave me cold- I've never been able to get in to Martha Grimes' novels, for example.

John, a book that you might enjoy, that I read on the cruise was Blood and Champagne by Kershaw.... It's the bio. of one Bob Capa who was a Hungarian Jew who changed his name, became a famous photo journalist. His pictures were in LIFE and COLLLIERS magazines . He photographed the Spanish Civil War;Was on the beaches at Normandy;Photographed the Japanese Sino war and was the first photo journalist to be killed in Viet Nam..

The historical part of this book was what I liked the most. Bob was in the middle of a lot of controversial things both personal and politically as he worked a lot for the Luce publications and learned that all the pictures he took were culled and only the ones that were favorable to certain causes were printed. Anyway it was an interesting read...as Bob lived an exciting but solitary life and was involved with some very famous women, Ingrid Bergman to name one.
