Laz, This is a bit different than charitable volunteer work. It is more along the lines of waitpersons being taxed on tips they may or may not have received, as the IRS calculates those phantom tips and taxes the waitperson's income accordingly.

Another thing to consider is that if you continue to live in tax-happy California during this gig, you will owe taxes to California. California ALWAYS gets theirs.

And, again, Heidi will want her cut. If you work for free, that cut will come out of your exchequer. - Holly
