As a youngster, before I had any experience of what actually happens, I thought it was a bad idea to have lots of competitors doing the same thing. Duplication of effort, economies of scale and all that.

Pretty soon though, I decided I liked piecework, which means getting paid for what you actually achieve and not being restricted to some average hourly pay rate which those around achieved with their puny efforts and blundering.

Once out in the big wide world, it became glaringly obvious in all instances that free markets work, governments don't, and big companies become dopey even though they are full of smart people who might work really hard.

It's only in recent years I discovered Thomas Sowell in cyberspace and have read all his articles here jewishworldreview.com for a few years.
