Yup, there is an adjustment if the change in value is over 5%. I had some investors who thought they could make money shorting calls or buying puts on MSFT before their big dividend. Didn't happen. Now, folks did make big bucks buying puts on MRK before they spun off Medco, but it wasn't because of the spinoff. Merck just imploded. I was on the wrong side of that one.

happened to me when I had CTX puts one time ...
