I'm not proposing that. I'm proposing a much more radical, fundamental change. I'd say that was what the education system was doing, but not expecting things to improve much, if it all.

I don't think the educational system can do it alone. They need political leadership and a society that has to be led to see the problem. Parents have to see it, and step up. The problems students will leave YOUR class, but will be their parents problem forever.

As for kids like your autistic kid that fourished under intense attention, but caused you to neglect the rest of your students - doesn't that problem suggest it's own answer? Some children WILL be left behind, always. Shoot for the greatest good for the greatest number. Do some educational triage. Teachers shouldn't have to be social workers.
