Gene duplication is a nice convenient concept. Sort of magic. But the moving around of the lego blocks to create some new structure that didn't exist before and can't do anything unless a bunch of the lego blocks are created (by gene duplication or random mutation or whatever) and assembled all together, that still is very very unlikely by chance.

creationism for the origin of life stands on almost equal footing as naturalistic explanations.

Ah, just go ahead and drop the almost. It won't hurt. IOW you have to believe in miracles to believe in EITHER creation or abiogenesis.

Just out of curiousity, have you read Darwin's Black Box?

I was impressed with it, naturally. But went out and read Dawkins and Dennett and Ken Miller to expose myself to the other side of the argument. And was not impressed - found out evolution is the creation myth of atheism and some of the most prominent scientists seem to be atheists first.
