Lizzie. Wachowski brothers wrote the screenplay. The original comic novel was written by Alan Moore in the late 1980's. amazon.com Alan Moore also wrote the comic novel "From Hell", about the Jack the Ripper story, which was made into a movie starring Johnny Depp, and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" which was also made into a (rather bad I hear) movie. Moore's "Watchmen" is currently being made into a movie I hear. Yeah, I agree that you'd expect greatness from the Wachowski brothers. Interesting, but I haven't seen any copies or promotion of the original comic book novel in any of the major book store chains here in Canada. Funny that. ;) g
