The Federal govt is absolutely horrible when it comes to food regulations.

The fed govt protects corporations, but not their citizens.

It's shocking to see an attempt at reversing the food label laws. A friend of a friend started a company who is now selling her food to Whole Foods. I inquired with her how much it cost to put together the food label. It wasn't a big deal at all. And she's a small outfit too, with no money to really start her company, yet she did it.

If she can do it with her startup, big companies obviously can and should do it. There is absolutely no excuse to attack the food labels. In fact, they could even make them better. It's not that big of a deal. They have labs that handle this and are reasonably efficient at doing so.

I also think children and adults with food allergies have a right to live. Imagine taking the food labels away which could be like a death threat to them. It's unconsciousable.

Especially when the costs are so low.

If a startup can easily create a food label that fulfills the State's restrictions in Calif, then big companies certain can do. Anyone that argues otherwise, doesn't know what they are talking about.

Republican Party should really drop the unethical stuff they tend to promote. It's no longer popular to muck up people's food. I predict as boomers retire, there will be an improvement in the overall food quality because they will demand healthier foods. That's my guess. Bush is acting like he's in the 70s, when the govt got away with this stuff. The public has changed and they demand and expect to know what they are eating.

RE: "the cost of making 50 different labels"

This is bogus. All they have to do is make one label that fullfils the requirements of all states and slap the same label on the product.

These people are really spinmakers. They are insulting the public's intelligence level. Remember when Ross Perot ran for office and actually treated the American people like they were smart and could understand and read charts that convey useful data and made useful points? What a refreshing change he was to how the Republican party treated Americans as dumb people under Bush Sr (who was shockingly better than Bush Jr. Never thought it would get worse.)

RE: " the issue has received little public attention. The House held no public hearings. It quietly voted for the change during the week Washington was consumed by the Dubai ports deal."

This is extremely unethical.
