I prefer using non-Kaiser doctors but I choose Kaiser because it's much cheaper.

My dad chose a really, really cheap HMO. He gets terrible care, IMO. I'm the one that spotted a big melanoma on his forehead on my annual visit, for heaven's sake. It stood out like a headlight. Treatment doesn't get much worse than that, IMO.

In contrast, I have a boutique primary care physician and I pay full freight for her services out of pocket.

I agree that that was an overstatement, but I do think it pretty accurately represents the general mood of the country.
