I mentioned some examples answering another post on this. Well, what I tried to explain is that some person may be interested in doing certain work for you, in private or in your small business, because of a combination of hourly compensation and the opportunity of learning from your experience - and just because he likes conversing with your from time to time.
He might thus be willing to work for a compensation of x$/hour even below the legal minimum because he considers the whole package a great deal.

Being legal he cannot do that, I guess.
So you may have to send him back to the street corner hanging with the other guys, while trying to figure out how to make the service he gave up profitable when your marginal income is below the legal minimum hourly pay.

Sorry, I admit it's not easy to explain, Monday or not.

Anyway, Parson (one of our lefties) suggests the best solution is to "close down those apple plucking jobs and plantations while moving them off shore where they belong".
