What a monumental political miscalculation." You could well be right. I think I'd read somewhere that Card was pushing hard to get rid of Cheney, that he blamed Cheney for Iraq. So, I suppose it's a victory for Cheney, which can't be good for America! I see it as rearranging ONE deck chair, one of the ones way in the back, on the Titanic, AFTER it's hit the iceberg. Card may just be one of the first ones into the few lifeboats. He may thank his lucky stars in a few years.

My guess is this is window dressing...his polls are in the toilet, the administration is making mistakes left and right, he is under pressure to shake up the cabinet, Card was ready to go anyway, so he fakes right...Bolten is an insider, been there as long as Card.
