Why should anybody believe a liar and an oathbreaker

Or, they no longer take such hooey seriously and don't feel any obligation to keep silent. That's the most persuasive argument against any "secret history" of anything - someone, somewhere, eventually will be disgruntled or disillisioned and spill the beans.

EDIT: Funny story BTW. One of my former coworkers was a very nice but somewhat simple Mason. We good naturedly called him our very own Illuminati, and asked him to pull some favors with the World Masters for us and get pay raises. The guys looked up the handshakes on the Internet, and poor Lyman was not a very good liar that they were not the Masonic symbols. He was a good guy. :)
