I have no doubt that SI members on the political threads have a very high voter turnout, which in and of itself is a very good thing. As Americans it is our patriotic duty to be engaged in the political process and while there will be differences, hopefully the discussion can rise above them for the good of the greatest nation on earth.

What is best for America now? The same thing that was best for us in about 1973. To end the war, cutting our losses and admitting we blew it over there. Once the hawks finally admitted Vietnam was a huge unwinnable mistake we were on the road back to recovery. I know it's tragic and sad to admit many lives were lost in vain, but it's better than staying in denial and getting more people killed. Besides, we can't afford that war financially or militarily anymore. SO Murtha has the best idea. Follow him.

Next, to hold the responsible politicians accountable, especially the most corrupt ones. That means a cleaning of the house and White House. To bring back checks and balances in our government and start protecting consumers, taxpayers, the environment, voting rights and civil liberties again. Then to start paying off our national credit card bills and getting off oil as our #1 fuel source.

Won't be easy, but the sooner we get started cleaning up this mess the better, and Bush-Delay types will just continue digging us deeper into the ditch.
