Checking the rest of the evidence, there's the usual stuff.

I didn't intend it to be "evidence" as such, simply a impressionistic sampling of what is out there. I found it interesting that the media outlets found more trust and belief in [their own] accuracy than other sources, and that the figures increased even after the Dan Rather episode, which was a disgrace. He hung onto a patently wrong position even longer than you typically do. vbg. He was canned for his zeal in trying to nail Bush, if you recall. If that wasn't bias, I don't know what is.

The effect on the bottom line of this decline in journalistic and broadcasting integrity is cumulative. Along with the growth in the sources of information, many of which are far superior to what the mass media offers, I think it explains their current financial difficulties, which are bound to increase.

I think the financial explanation also has the effect of increasing the media's sensationalism, as reflected in the Cheney affair. They need the dollars so they turn up the heat, a very shortsighted tactic, IMO.
