Ted, Instead of accusing teachers, try to figure out why so many kids are so deficient in this country.

Broken families, lack of motivation and direction, a youth subculture that devalues education.

Bill Cosby said it best, and although he was speaking to his fellow black people, his ideals can be applied to everyone:


I think that's part of the problem but I think another part stems from the quality of the parenting, or the lack thereof. Both parents are working so hard to maintain what they consider an ideal standard of living that it doesn't leave much time or energy for anything else including parenting. They think by buying their kids toys that makes up for the lack of guidance and love.

Its occurred to me in the last few years that what ails this country is the high value we place on affluence. I think it may be our undoing.
