Tim, Obviously they have added things that the Secret Service is supposed to do. In 1865 there were no credit, or debit cards, so that had to come later.

The start of the Secret Service was when Abe Lincoln hired Allan Pinkerton, and his detectives, to secure the White House, and the occupants in it. The protection of the currency probably came shortly thereafter.

The whole gist of my flippant statement was that the Secret Service is not expected to dig into Medicare fraud. Medicare seems to be a self policed outfit, and that ain't gonna get it done, and the bulk of the fraud lies at the feet of the medical providers that are robbing from Medicare benefits.
