I hire and manage sales people, and I seldom hire people with sales experience, because they usually have been badly trained to be aggressive. Good salespeople work hard to find a match of need and product benefit.

We gave up hiring so called "sales people" for sales a long time ago. You never find any and in case you happen to do,they are seldom good enough at least not for our needs so they come and (are let) go to no avail.

Rather than that we started searching the industry (electronics) for "engineers with at least 10 years experience and several years in engineering management" for "internal highly technical sales back-up positions".

We got a long line of such guys in for interviews and eventually hire those with an extraverted personality, good communication skills and experience from managing small teams and involvement in technical communication with large customers.

No more than 6-9 months later those guys were pulled into sales by highly satisfied customers, who finally got competent partners.
Our "account managers" now have the time of their life, like us they make great money and everybody including customers and principals love it.
