iow, just because we CAN do something technologically, doesn't mean we should...

i think a balance should be struck....pay a living wage to the farm worker, (obviously this world is full of people content with merely a 'living wage') and pass that cost along (assuming the market will bear it)

apart from that

however, once the cost of human labor exceeds to a certain extent (whatever that tipping point may be, i do not know)

at some point, the 'manufacturers/producers' see the productivity (equaling=PROFIT) enhancements enabled by technology, superior to the vagaries and headaches of hiring humans

when i see hundreds of thousands of illegals marching demanding rights and waving nationalistic flags....i think we may be close to the tipping point...why bother with the annoyance and aggravation of human workers if there is a viable technological alternative?

and guess what?

if there is a demand? some enterprising japanese inventor will fill it <vvbg>
