well a friend of mine paid about $165k per acre in some beautiful desert land backing up to a national forest...

home builders paid roughly $500,000 per buildable acre for empty desert land.

that seems ridiculous, when you consider that for about 500K you can buy around an acre in Austin...with a 3000 sf house on it.
