Ted, I am not sure that Intel's position is as solid as MSFT's.

It's definitely not, but Intel has taken a cue from Microsoft and started a "bundling" strategy of its own.

As for Broadcom, they're certainly growing all right, but they're nowhere near the size of Intel or even AMD, so the comparison is somewhat apples to oranges.

I guess I don't think either BRCM nor MRVL has to be much bigger to be a threat to INTC and AMD. Given the situation between AMD and INTC, it seems they are big enough. Strategically, I don't think it would be a problem for INTC if the competition with AMD weren't so cutthroat. I am sure there are other competitors that compete as fiercely, but I don't know who they are.........and Jerry ain't in the picture that much any more. This AM I was reading an article....."AMD's new fab is coming on line faster than expected. However, INTC is already shipping 65 nano but AMD isn't there yet......later this year....so its behind INTC.....per usual. But consumers are liking AMD's chips and AMD is stealing market share. Meanwhile INTC hopes to start shipping 45 nano by end of this year or beginning of 2007. Bla bla bla"........its scary how hard these guys compete with each other. There is not one iota of room for a mistake it seems.

That's why I think other competitors are a bigger threat to INTC than they normally would be. FWIW.
