The liberal media bias debate is truly a no-brainer. Let's apply a little logic. If the public really felt that the major news media were "playing it straight down the middle" then you would have a standard "bell curve" distribution of bias-believers. You would have a roughly equal number of people who feel the MMS is biased to the left as you do to the right. The fact that virtually every poll ever done on the subject shows a huge majority who perceive a leftleaning bias is compelling. The absence of significant public belief in a right-leaning MSM is really all the "proof" one needs to settle the matter. After all, partisans on both extremes strongly desire to see their viewpoints represented in the media. Every conservative I have ever known would dearly love to see a rightward tilt in the NY Times. Or Wash Post. Or CBS. Or NBC. Or CBS. Or CNN. Or Time mag. Or Newsweek. Etc, etc. Somehow, year after year, it is only the folks on the right who complain about bias in these organizations. If these news outlets are really neutral, why is it only conservatives who complain in significant numbers? Rather obviously because left-leaning news consumers are largely getting their desires met.

The Law of Large Numbers would suggest to any analytical thinker that, when that many people perceive bias and its all in one direction, there must be more than a kernel of truth to the observation.

Thanks, I believe about 75% of Americans are moderate or at least consider themselves to be so. I know I think I am. It's a complex world today and often people are harder to pigeonhole than we might like. <g>

Have a Great Weekend,
Josh
