I did some work for Hoescht-Celanese when they had their HQ in Portsmouth, VA that looks across the river to the Norfolk inland waterfront. From my window you could see the Boomers and Attacks slide in and out the channel every so often. Absolutely awesome to think about what was hidden inside that black bulge gliding along underneath the water.....

Most of the nuke boats are built at GE's Electric Boat Division in Groton, Conn. I'm not sure how much Newport News Ship is involved in maintenance, but you see the boats in the Newport News, Norfolk, and Portmouth Naval Yard area all the time. The other big center is in WA state. Large numbers of the old diesel-electric boats were built in Wisconsin, up around Manitowoc.

I love all submarine movies, but I don't follow the subject much anymore in any detail. I love that we have lots of those boats out there capapble of sending shivers up the spines of the aggravating arseholes who might want to "..do something stupid.." otherwise.

John :-)
