The border security debate started right after 9-11. Chretien told the Americans that Canada had no interest. Paul Martin told the Americans how lax and stupid we think they are. So since we are not interested and think they are stupid they have been debating what to do about the world's leakiest undefended border. Don't forget that Paul Martin was of the opinion that only Americans could stop the flow of Guns into Canada, because Canadians were unable to check the guns coming into the country. But the point is moot, except for immediately beside the border the Americans won't miss Canadian Tourists. Canadians who have homes in Florida will simply get a passport. But what of Canadians who depend on American Tourists, like the people in Toronto, so sure of the righteousness of the Canadian way, but whining like fools when the Americans stay away? I think the next couple of years might just wipe the smugness of Mayor Millers face.
