I doubt if slavery would have survived the war very long if the South had won. Robert E. Lee wasn't real fond of the "peculiar institution". He wasn't alone.

Which is not to say that blacks would have had any status. But being bought and sold on the Internet would not be one of the things that would have been in the cards.


Wasn't the Southern economy really dependent on work performed by slaves? I thought the loss of slaves put the Southern economy into a two decade recession after the war? In these days, you see the level of denial by some people......and the move to issues that many of us thought were long dead like ID.

Okay, I see your point.......its not likely we would have out and out slavery in the 21st century......but I suspect there would be some kind of servitude arrangement between whites and blacks.
