Joe,

>> What makes you think Fab 36 is empty?

"empty" in the sense that is is very far from producing at "full" capacity ?

According to AMD:

1- production started in q1.
2- ramp takes 3 years.

So in q1, if ramp is linear, production will be at 10% of capacity. Much closer to empty than full.

>> Do they have to wait until Fab 36 is fully ramped to start Chartered production?

Yes I would think so, unless they were getting a capability at chartered that they don't have a fab 36. So please tell us what that is ?

>> Trying to pretend you seek information is pretty transparent.

No pretense. Please tell me what advantage is there to outsource production when AMD's facility is no-where near fully utilized ? Keep in mind that as production is shifted from fab 30 to fab 36, fab 30 will then be looking for replacement work. Also keep in mind that the cost of 300 mm fabs is very steep, and they are economically viable only when fully utilized.

>> and I guess you just want to troll.

What am I trolling for ? catfish ? Since you seem interested in the subject, I'm sure you have valuable insight. I am interested in knowing the additional capability that chartered might provide to AMD. Recall that the preceding use of fab 7 was in making x-box parts for Microsoft. Microsoft does not own any fabs. So outsourcing made sense.
