Egypt cleric's fatwa bans display of statues

A recently issued fatwa against the display of statues has Egypt in uproar.

The religious edict was issued by Egypt's Grand mufti, Ali Juma’a who declared statues as un-Islamic saying he based his decision on texts in the Hadith.

The fatwa, which condemned sculptors and their work, was supported by other leading Islamists.
