My favorite rendition of the national anthem before a sporting event took place a couple of years ago in Portland before a Trailblazers game. A young woman singing the anthem (maybe in her late teens, maybe early 20s) forgot the words early on and looked a bit flustered (with 20,000 people watching). Maurice Cheeks (the Blazers coach) walked over, put his arm around her, and sang the rest of the song with her. He then shook her hand and walked back to the bench to coach his team.

When asked about it after the game, he simply replied that it could have happened to anyone. It was one of the classiest things I've seen, taking a moment that could have haunted her and turning it into something she can now laugh about in the future.
