Those whose eye is accustomed to look for Fractals are not surprised by Analogs.... g/ng.

Here is an article by Bob Hoye which I found interesting - almost 3 years old, but fully relevant... dealing with the issue of repetitive booms and busts throughout history.

One thing which doesn't fit is his observation that "normally" a "minor" deflation, which occurs in Commodities and Real Assets will trigger an "abuse of credit" which - some years down the road - will cause a bubble in Financial assets -- the collapse of which, in turn, would trigger a larger and more lasting deflation.

In our case, the "minor deflation" in the early 90's may have indeed helped trigger a larger financial asset bubble, but - as a result of us being "saved" from deflation - what took place is an even larger inflation in Commodities and Real Assets.
