What they are forgetting is that they take trips to Europe or the Caribbean every other year when their parents felt lucky to take that one big "second Honeymoon" vacation.

Who's going to Europe or the Caribbean every other year? Some dual-income 30-somethings without kids, perhaps?

I think what people are comparing when they refer to the good-old-days of their parents is that their parents could live a middle class life style, make mortgage payments, go on two week family vacations, even if only to the nearest state camp ground, and otherwise raise their family on a single income earned from working 40 hours/wk (or less!).

How many can do that today?
