<rant warning>
Is it worse than the British version? (which I fear may have been the 'original', if any show composed of wannabes do karaoke can be described as original...).

I was subjected to about five loathsome minutes and regard it as some of the least pleasant consumerism I've seen, ranking with those cartoon shows based entirely on 'collectible' toys in its motivation. As for the inane skip to fame without any of the tedious intervening requirements of achievement, effort or distinguishing talent - well, what a fine metaphor for the decline of Western youth and the degeneration of the work ethic in our civilisation.

Note the total inability of anyone but the most obsessive teen, six months on, to name any but possibly the winner and the "disgruntled but rebelliously successful runner-up" (which I assume is also a position agreed upon some time earlier)... and then only from the first series.

Oddly enough I won't name a favourite either <gg>
