Oh, but they are rigged... the specialists on the floor make the market... you know how the market rallies in the morning then sells off in the afternoon? Well, in that morning rally, the specialists are selling to the buying investor... then, when the market moves lower and investors sell out in fear of losing all their money, those same specialists are buying back their short positions... yes, it's all rigged... then you also have the Feds pumping money into these markets to spur on a rally when it looks like the market is about to break hard... it's all rigged to move higher... also, the DOW, SP, and NAZ all remove those stocks which are lagging behind and are replacing them with other stocks that are doing well... the SP's just did that with Google last week... this way, the major market indices can claim they're making 5 year highs, meanwhile the rest of the stock in the market are falling apart... of course it's all rigged to make it look attractive to the investor, but the investor is being taken for a ride...IMHO
