Mr Lucky
No one here ever suggested the beheading of a teacher in front of a class is a good thing. How on Earth did you get to that? The fact that your claim was disputed, when you said using "insurgent" was the same as using "freedom fighter", has zero to do with the actions in the article being a good thing. I mean really, where on Earth did you come up with that? Who in the Wa Po would think it a good thing? Did you think the Wa Po thought it was a good thing?

If everyone called them terrorists instead of insurgents, would we send more troops? Kill more of them? Lose fewer of our troops? Be motivated to spend more or stay longer? Pursue different, more effective strategies to achieve victory? Unite the Iraqis behind one cause?

What is the import beyond one POV's notion of political correctness vs. another?

Forget about the definition for a minute. Is the WAPO article describing a good thing?

Of course not. That was the point of the article. You objected, however, to the term "insurgents" used in the article.

As I said before, if you wish to do so, you need to be willing to label similar actions by groups/nations you support.
