It's always good to be among the "reasonable, thoughtful people," who are, of course, the moderates

I disagree with that. A reasonable and thoughtful consideration of things quite clearly can lead to radical thinking, if properly pursued.

Winston Churchill is the perfect example. He was thoughtful and reasonable and correct with respect to his thinking about Hitler. The moderates were content with pieces of paper and "peace in our time."

But Churchill had his ear to the ground, receiving informal factual reports from Germany from many, many sources. His position was thoughtful and deliberate, not shot out of the hip.

I can think of other examples.

Delay is leaving the House, among other reasons, because his legal problems just got worse. Now if one calls that a conclusion, a suspicion, a whatever, it matters not.

The problem with your formulation, however you care to define it, is that DeLay's legal problems simply have not gotten worse, at least as far as the general public knows. His political problems, however, undoubtedly got worse with Rudy's plea.

No additional indictment, no target letter, absolutely nothing of a legal nature has taken place that puts him in additional legal jeopardy, i.e., facing additional jail time. This may very well take place but it hasn't happened yet. There are clearly no additional legal problems presently facing him as a result of Rudy's plea as you state, none you and I know about.

It's hard for me to believe this but I think you misunderstand the basic distinction between politics and law, at least in this context.

If someone doesn't agree with your logic, you conclude they are "nutters."

I didn't do that. It has nothing to do with agreeing with any logic of mine. I merely differentiated between suspicion and conclusion, as does your wife, and then commented on the risks of failure to do so.
