The belief that guns in the hands of ordinary law abiding citizens is one of the better available defenses against mass shootings isn't ignorant. Private guns have been used to stop criminals in a number of mass shooting incidents, and have probably deterred others. The cops can take awhile to get on the scene. Often all they can do is arrest the perp if he is still around, or investigate the crime scene if he has already left. A lot of people can die while waiting for the cops to save them.

Tim, you are in serious, serious denial over this issue. The fodder that the NRA feeds you is just that.......fodder. Life in this country is far from normal for a civilized society. My German friends are amazed that I had experienced being shot at before I even turned 30; that I have witnessed two gun shootouts between police and crooks. They have no way of relating to how violent this society is. A kid takes out some classmates with a gun in Germany and the whole nation goes into mourning and shock. Here........its "what a pity" but life goes on. I know now we will never change the gun laws in this country......there are too many militaristic, aggressive NRAers running around........and for that, this country suffers.........badly.
