Hey, I saw the US Olympic curling team, didn't they get a bronze or something? There is a great deal of utility in building closer ties with peoples and nations around the globe that we need for political, military or economic ends. We know that dictating to those nations on our own terms has limited success. Showing them that some of us will learn another language and absorb some local culture pays huge returns. I watched people in Bosnia trying to win over the locals and not having a clue about the local language or culture, and look where Bosnia is ten years after Dayton. But hey, Washington in its infinite wisdom abolished the agency I worked for that did that. And now everyone is running around like the proverbial chicken minus its head, wondering how we can improve our image abroad. How about some Texas Republican campaign consultants? Well duh. ;<)
