Energyplay,
The biggest scandal was Truman. Not that he had squirreled away the ill-gotten gains, but that he was so impoverished in his retirement that it was a national scandal.

I think Nixon was accused of much more in the way of corruption than he was actually guilty of, at least in the way of personal corruption. The proof was that he didn't die an extremely rich man. Nixon was ruthless in the excercise of power, but not to benefit himself in a personal financial way. ALSO, Nixon enjoyed the company of "tough" guys, like Bebe Rebozo, not for the money but for the tall stories, the camradarie and the bullsh#t, all of which goes well with an evening of good whiskey, which he also enjoyed. That doubtless came from his earlier career around the court house and made it easier for a hostile media to present him in an unfavorable light. I voted for Nixon twice and would do over again, even though I don't like liberals. <grin>
