Perhaps more to the point is people are living longer than ever before.

I do presume they have modern amenities in your neck of the woods. schools, sewers, healthcare, reasonable quality control of the food sources etc. I would say these are the causes of a longer life rather then the mercury, sulpher and Nitrous Oxides we are receiving from one route or another.

Yes I meant rein, not reign. However the words are close in meaning and spelling, no need to make a big deal out of it imo.

btw how many coal burning power stations are there in Andorra, San Marino, and Japan? These are the countries with the longest life expectancies. There are some people who live in the highlands in China whose average life expectancy is supposed to be somewhere up in the 130's, but I don't expect that will last for much longer. Not with the new coal burning power stations the Chinese are commissioning each week.

It is arrogant beyond belief to think one set of humans should be penalized while another runs amok

Whoa, you are preaching the the choir here. I can think of plenty of examples where that precedent ought to be followed. Just read the news.

I have not plugged for the Kyoto terms. The idea that you can "trade" carbon credits is baloney to me.

An example.

itv.com

Our science editor Lawrence McGinty is travelling around the world to see for himself the environmental hotspots where climate change is most obvious.

His journey will be carbon neutral as ITV News will buy carbon credits to offset his and his team's carbon-dioxide emissions generated by his air travel around the globe. These credits will be used to invest in low-carbon technologies and plant trees.

Lawrence McGinty looks like a dickhead in this photo of himself.

itv.com

The "offset his carbon emissions" thing is just pure B/S. That air travel either contributed to the planets warming trend or he is just talking waffle to get his pay packet.

The argument is that human activity is having an effect on the planets climate.

Simple rule. If you make a mess you clean it up.

There is plenty of data out there. Lots of reports, analysis and opinions.

No arrogance needed.

There is no argument because no matter what we do as humans it won't stop the next ice age, it won't stop the magnetic poles from reversing and it won't stop a meteorite hit. Enjoy your life because you have no control over outside events

That is side stepping my argument altogether. Is the activity of humans causing climate change. Yes or No? If we are effecting the climate, whats steps are necessary to reduce or prevent any trend from continuing.

If you live in a crappy environment you will not be happy. It will effect your lifestyle and health, including those of your loved ones. End of Story. Your happiness will be effected. No matter how many Ayn Rand novels you read.
