re: It seems to me that if we don't want to be overrun in this world, and by we, I mean the US and other first world countries, we will need to actively invest in and stimulate other cultures. I hate having to do it but the disparity between us and them is way too great and is growing. Its part of the reason why we have so much illegal immigration. The pressure is building and there are not enough third world countries that are improving their economics. I read a report about Nigeria this AM that scared the bejezus out of me. I had no idea that country was so bad off inspite of all its oil. And Nigeria is just one of many.

We have been... maybe not as much as we should. Maybe because I'm 57 years old (next week) I've been around long enough to see the world incrementally improve. A VERY large part of that is due to US and western European policy... great stuff for the most part.

But we've done a 180 with this administration. Things are getting much worse. It's easier for things to get worse than better... better takes careful planning and careful diplomacy and implementation of well studied, thought out policy.

Maybe it's the US attitude of instant gratification... if we can't make it work in 30 days send in the troops, and fuck the consequences.

I hate to see all the efforts of the post WW2 generations put to waste, but that's whats happening.
