I'm not trying to convince you the NRA is a good thing. I am defending the NRA against horrible slander. I hope to convince you that good thing or not, it is not some racist conspiracy, or collection of criminals and terrorists. I might not be able to achieve that aim, but even if I knew I could not I would still defend it against such slander. Tim, its very simple guns kill. We live in a very violent culture because those guns kill. And while I understand the NRA believes people kill......its the guns that make it very possible........its much easier to kill someone with a gun than a knife or a screwdriver or hang them with a rope. Meanwhile the NRA encourages the ownership of guns. In a sense, they are like drug dealers.......they are the enablers even if they don't sell the guns direcly like drug dealers sell drugs directly to their clientale. For someone who has fired several weapons but has little use for them, I see the NRA as evil in the same way I see drug dealers as evil. Its nothing personal.......all purveyors of evil get that same reaction from me. Now I understand that some people have the need to hunt......that its a sport. And I believe they should be accomodated.....within reason. That means limiting access, limiting numbers owned and requiring a lengthy approval process. I think gun ownership should be made a privilege as opposed to a right. I know this will never happen in this country but I wanted to make clear to you where I stand on the issue and why I will criticize and condemn the NRA at every opportunity.
