Zinni said she typified many voters--they voted but didn't know who they were voting for., Not much difference than those who vote down party lines in the US. And Iraq had a far greater turn-out than most US elections, as a percentage of the overall electorate. I believe few people are under any illusions that there are those Iraqis who will be swayed by general themes and grandious titles used as fronts for various political parties. But what we have is a challenge of opening up the society to new ideas and a free press in which to convey them. It's going to take a tremendous effort and considerable time, but face it... When the US was created few Americans had ever been blessed with the experience of casting votes in elections. And a good majority of them probably did the same thing that lady from Basra did, find a party name that best reflected what they perceived to be their values. But here we are, 220+ years later and we're far stronger and more tolerant than we ever were in 1781. Eye on the prize Sam... Keep your eye on the prize.. No matter how long it takes, it's a prize worth fighting for.. Because it will only makes us safer as a nation if we're seen as an advocate for the people, and not just some parochial party that conveniently serves our interests. The people will eventually get it right, because all politics are local and the people will vote for those things that enhance their own prosperity and well-being. And those things are seldom found in war. Hawk
