"dual booting could not be avoided -- the demand for it is too great."

You really think the demand is that great? I'm not convinced.

No doubt in my mind Apple prefers virtualization as well but dual booting could not be avoided -- the demand for it is too great.

FWIW, I'm a dedicated PC user who has never considered Apple, and while I am still very unlikely to switch, I think that this will at least make me look at what Apple offers. At the very least, I think they will have opened up quite a few doors with the announcement.

The problem is the demand isn't coming from Windows users wanting Mac hardware, it's coming from Mac users needing to run Windows.

This is a giant white flag from Apple. They've surrendered, and are content with their 3% marketshare.

Which may be a smart plan, in the long run.
