The sad demographic fact is that any population of hundreds of thousands, whether teachers or bureaucrats or priests or whatever, will contain a given percentage of pedophiles. If they have not been caught and exposed before, they will do what they do until they are caught. All the rest of us can do is enforce the punishments firmly and look for signs it may be happening elsewhere.

But it will always happen now and then.

When something happens often, it loses it's ironical nature. Irony has to do with things happening contrary to what is expected. With all that we know about dads molesting their daughters, that is hardly "unexpected" anymore. It's like priests molesting kids- sure it's tragic, but it's so common it's lost it's ironical nature. IMO, of course.

So I think we are merely differing over the definition of irony. So many of these conversations on SI come down to a simple case of different views on definitions.
